Custody And Visitation

There are few things worse than having to go to court because of a child custody dispute. Tensions are high in these situations as both parents vie for primary custody. Unfortunately, heightened emotions can ruin negotiations if parents forget what's most important: the child's best interests.

At Smith, Lehberger & Bodie, we do what we can to keep communication strong and open between parents during difficult custody disputes. We maintain a focus on the children and what they need in order to make the process go as smoothly as possible.

Two Roles, One Goal

As family law attorneys, we have two roles. The first may be as a guardian ad litem. In this role, we advocate for the child and help parents make decisions that are in the child's best interests. The second role may be acting as a petitioner in situations where a parent or third party believes neglect or abuse is occurring.

Whatever role we take on, our main goal is to protect the rights of the child and make sure that the ending result is truly what's best for them. Though we always try to push for negotiations at first, we know this isn't possible in every situation, which is why we are also prepared for litigation if necessary.

Family Abduction Custody Cases

Discovering that your child has been taken by the other parent to another state or country where you may never see them again is a terrifying thought that can leave you feeling overwhelmed and powerless.

We understand your concerns and what is at stake, and will work closely with you in cases of family abduction to assert your parental rights or enforce a custody order. We can help you navigate the differences between interstate and international jurisdictions and work with you to fight for your right to see your children.
