Keeping Communication Open During Child Custody Disputes

There are few things worse than having to go to court because of a child custody dispute. Tensions are high in these situations as both parents vie for primary custody. Unfortunately, heightened emotions can ruin negotiations if parents forget what's most important: the child's best interests.

My name is Meghan A. Bodie, and I do what I can to keep communication strong and open between parents during difficult custody disputes. I maintain a focus on the children and what they need in order to make the process ahead go as smoothly as possible.

Whether the custody dispute arose out of a contested divorce, separation of unmarried parents, problems with the adoption process, or because of abuse or neglect, I push for custody and visitation arrangements that keep in mind each family's unique situation and needs.

Two Roles, One Goal

As a family law attorney, I have two roles. The first may be as a guardian ad litem. In this role, I stand as an advocate for the child and help parents make decisions that are in the child's best interests. The second role may be acting as a petitioner in situations where a parent or third-party believes neglect or abuse is occurring.

Whatever role I take on, my main goal is to protect the rights of the child and make sure that the ending result is truly what's best for them. Though I always try to push for negotiations at first, I know this isn't possible in every situation, which is why I'm also prepared for litigation if necessary.

Family Abduction Custody Cases

Discovering that your child has been taken by the other parent to another state or country where you may never see them again is a terrifying thought that can leave you feeling overwhelmed about the process ahead. I understand your concerns, and can work with you in cases of family abduction to assert your parental rights or enforce a custody order. I can help you navigate the differences between interstate and international jurisdictions and work with you to fight for your right to see your children.
